October 2011:
The picture is really grim at Dingalpota village in the Ban-Hooghly gram panchayat area in South 24-Parganas. Out of the 10 tube wells, which are the main source of drinking water, four have been lying defunct and two have been sealed by the government because of heavy arsenic contamination. Around 1,600 villagers have to depend on the remaining four: the water from which has been found unfit for drinking purposes...
